Set in the unserviced informal settlement of TT Section in Khayelitsha, community members have come together to turn a large empty shack into a hall where the youth learn various traditional Tswana and isiXhosa dances.
Local schools do not offer any after-school programs for their children and so over 26 children participate every afternoon when they get home from school learning how to work and dance together. This keeps them busy in a positive space and away from gangs and drugs. It is also a way for children to reclaim positive aspects of their culture which is quickly being lost in many urban areas.
CHOSA will continue to provide capacity-building and networking support to SA Beware and has also recently expanded its volunteer program to the community.
